We Are All More Than We Seem
Be not bound by whatever your present job or job title is.. and don't let how others see you bring you down...
I am a retired teacher who now works as a circulation desk person in a small town library. After I retired I took a big hit financially (eh…it happens…life goes on) so I work little jobs to pay for my travel.
So, a bit about me…I taught for almost 40 years. I took 4 years off to waitress at night while I got my second degree(Geology). First degree was education. Third was MA in Health education. I have taught elementary grades, middle school, high school and college.
Primary grades
College Algebra and Trig
High school bilingual (Vietnamese and Spanish) Earth Science
Chemistry
Middle school math, science, social studies
Kindergarten (EEEEEK!)
So I work small jobs to pay for travel…but none of the jobs…teaching, making paint, caregiving, etc…none of those define me…they are means to an end.
Yes, there have been times when people (even ones I worked with…with possibly better titles) have treated me dismissively because of my job title…and perhaps, dear readers…you have been treated thusly…that does not reflect who I am, or who you are.
We work to pay our bills. We get an education to get better jobs. We are not our job titles.
Me? In my head I have always been a storyteller. That’s why I write this! Because this is who I am…a writer…a storyteller…and in many ways, an encourager of others.
I will work as a circ desk person for a few years more…to earn money to travel…but I am more than that…and so are you.
The photo today is from a few weeks spent at Vindolanda Roman Fort. I think it was 2017. Great fun, cold as hell and damn hard on the knees.
And this year I will be sailing out into the North Atlantic to St. Kilda…and you might see chapter one of my mystery novel on these pages…
